Marguerite Gallant

Marguerite Gallant - Musée

Marguerite Gallant (1890-1983) was a native of Chéticamp with a profound love of collecting. She worked in Pennsylvania for many years as a maid for the Edward Cahill family. It is said that she learned the value of collecting from Mr.Cahill who was an ardent collector.

When she returned to Chéticamp in 1938, Marguerite moved into a tiny house which she filled with objects of all kinds. As Marguerite's reputation for collection spread through the community, people brought objects to her rather than let them be thrown away. After Marguerite's death, La Société Saint-Pierre became custodians of the collection and moved it to Les Trois Pignons. Thanks to this incurable collector, many valuable artifacts from Chéticamp's history have been preserved.
